At last!

I'm going to hold my commentary for the comments — I want to give y'all a chance to listen and think about this song before I explain it. I will say that it had been sitting around almost-finished for some time, and that last week seemed like a particularly good time to finish it.

MP3 and lyrics — enjoy!

being thick, i had to cheat to figure it out, but it's quite well done.

i'll be interested to hear how you picked the names and the number. i have my guesses at sources for all of them, but some of the guesses are better (and more complete) than others.

Wow! Not sure what the "tool" and the "component" are, but wow!

G10, try gematria for the number. And add the usual suffix to the names.

Well, the actual engineering details are beyond me ;-), but since the tool is for making adjustments, I imagine it would be something like a wrench — long and skinny, forked at the business end, you get the idea... As for the component, it was already in the lab. Was it the "part" that was already installed, but incorrectly? Was it something else?

At some point, of course, the strict analogy to the source material breaks down, and what remains is poetry — or science fiction! I assume it's clear, though, why the Maintenance team would have to keep working through the weekend. (Speaking of which, have a Nice Weekend!)

The moral of this song is, "It's not a bug, it's a feature."

I'm curious how many filkers will be actively aided by the number 45 and how many will come back to it after they figure the rest out.

Yes, I got that.

Count me among the latter. I didn't get it until it was obvious what it had to be.

Usual suffix? And I'm totally lost after looking at a page on gematria.

wayman, I'm trying not to be too obvious in comments, but email me (mailto:zev@sero.name) and I'll explain privately.

Oh, my.

It took a second read-through before I realized what the experiments were -- and who the named characters were for that matter.
