Edit: I accidentally forgot to make this post private, thus revealing one of my most dangerous secrets — how I'm keeping track of which posts on my friends page I have and haven't seen before.

Just before I start reading my friends page, I make a private post containing just the text "*** bookmark ***". I read my friends page until I see the previous such post, and then delete that post. I started doing this quite recently, and it has been helpful in making LJ a bit more manageable. If you have any other tips along these lines, feel free to mention them in comments.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled livejournal.

I've been reading the WoW forums, where the character limit on replies makes people constantly spam eight posts marked "reserved." So for a moment I was wondering if you would later edit this to have content. Then I decided that it was probably more of a note to self sort of thing.

It's a reminder to myself as to when I last checked my friends page. I post it before I start reading, read until I reach the previous bookmark, and then delete it. And I evidently forgot to make this one private.

Well, my hypothesis for what this mysterious post meant was that you had added another author to your bookmark collection.

Huh? How do you see your own posts on your friends page? (I just read until I hit something I've read before, but I don't necessarily get everything.. if I'm offline for a week, I never get caught up.)
