A good meme.

replicated from [livejournal.com profile] batyatoon

"If there is someone on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal."

That's a lot of you — and those of you I would have met even without the internet, you too are making my world a better place. *big group hug* May all beings be happy, with or without the internet.

... happy ... without ... the internet?

*stares at you in puzzlement*

Those are all English words, I'm sure of it, but ...

I'd forgotten that you knew Toon! Still so weird.

Just yesterday afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] foleyartist1 and I tracked down the moment we "met" (a little over three years ago) in dusty email archives in the bottom shelf of my PowerBook (things archived from an old m3ip server and re-copied onto two subsequent computers). She'd accidentally hit "reply all" to a message from a third-party mutual friend, and her .sig referred to her impending "lexicographical suicide"--how could I then have avoided emailing her to ask about this?! :-)

Interesting: I can't say this. The only people on my flist who I even knew online (defined as the chat list) before I knew them IRL are [livejournal.com profile] irilyth and [livejournal.com profile] jere7my, and I'm pretty sure I would have met them even without the internet, although I'm sure it would have taken longer (like until a reunion or alumni weekend). But that's partly because I don't use LJ as a tool to meet new people, just to keep up with people I already know.

I'm somewhat the same way, but in my case, while I would have met, say, [livejournal.com profile] jere7my at a SWILfunction eventually, I would almost certainly not have gotten to know him without the internet.

Hrm, well, I wonder if met is the same thing as "encounter." I mean, I've certainly never met, say, [livejournal.com profile] maritzac or [livejournal.com profile] myaru, and neither of them have any idea I even exist. Nor do I particuarly want them to. But I certainly wouldn't have known about them without the Internet, and I think they are pretty neat.

And while we got to know each other without the benefit of the internet...
