Why does the idea of a story about a war which is won by an elite cadre of brash young aeronauts using technology which is different from anything in the real world, but not different enough to qualify as "science fiction", remind you of anime? Could there be some stylistic precedent suggesting that anime is an especially likely or apt form for such a story...? ;-)
